Cleanroom-o-rings
O-rings produced in a clean room environment
The semiconductor, healthcare, aerospace and automotive industries are experiencing increasing demand for cleanroom manufactured O-rings and seals.
This element is critical because contaminants, no matter how small, can cause product defects and shorten the service life of seals. This increased standard
of cleanliness includes the absence of dust, particles and contaminants.
Clean room O-rings of various grades are produced in a limited space where a prescribed limit is placed on the number of air particles allowed in a given space volume.
O-ring clean room specification standard
The international clean room standard specification ISO-14644 details the maximum particle concentration per class and per particle size. Each category has a standard
for defining the largest particles per cubic foot, with particle sizes expressed in microns.
【Class 100,000】, also known as ISO Class 8, means that fewer than 100,000 particles larger than 0.5 microns are allowed per cubic foot of air space. Oems in the
aerospace and automotive industries may require O-rings to be manufactured in Class 100,000 cleanrooms before being placed in high-performance vehicles.
【Class 1,000】, also known as ISO Class 6, means that fewer than 1,000 particles larger than 0.5 microns are allowed per cubic foot of air space. Medical device and
drug manufacturers may require O-rings to meet Class 1,000 clean room specifications to meet hygiene standards during manufacturing.
【Class 100】, also known as ISO Class 5, means that fewer than 100 particles larger than 0.5 microns are allowed per cubic foot of air space. Semiconductor production
most often requires O-rings to meet Class 100 clean room specifications.
