    The moving piston rod creates a high pressure on the piston seal, increasing the contact force between the seal and the cylinder surface.

    The choice of piston seal is decided by the way in which the cylinder operates. For a cylinder which is exclusively single-acting, capable of sealing dynamic pressure from one side (unidirectional), it is always best to choose the type of seal designed to provide optimum sealing qualities for single-acting functions.

    Piston seals designed for bidirectional pressure

    The best sealing capacity of a double-acting cylinder, capable of sealing dynamic pressure from both sides (bidirectional), is achieved by choosing a double-acting seal.

    A piston design where two single-acting seals on the piston for a double-acting cylinder are used can easily give rise to a breakdown.  The reason is that a very high pressure can be trapped between the seals.Piston seals, both single- and double-acting, can be designed for and used with integrated or separate back-up rings and guide rings.Piston seals are usually manufactured in our high performance polyurethane ,  rubber/fabric composite or polyester elastomer.

     

    LANHE piston seals for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders and actuators are designed to separate applied pressure between the piston and the rod side during the stroke movement.  They are available as single-acting and double acting seals in a wide range of compound and profile configurations to meet diverse applications: high and low temperatures and pressures, a wide variety of media, harsh operating conditions, various friction requirements, etc.  LANHE piston seals can cover working temperatures from -50°C to 230°C and working pressures up to 800 bar.  Some seal profiles are insensitive to extreme pressure peaks. There are piston seals available that comply with ISO 6020, ISO 5597 and ISO 7425-1 standards.s.
